This morning Mom testified at the DC Taxicab Commission to help people understand what it is like to have a disability and be assisted by a service dog, and that it's very frustrating, maddening and ILLEGAL when she can not get a cab in the district just because she has a service dog. Even though it was a public meeting, one of the commissioners was not very happy about reporters tape recording and videotaping the PUBLIC meeting... so they had two reporters (one of the reporters was from the Washington Post) arrested! Yes, ARRESTED! This was during the testimony of Mr. Dickinson AAPD's Vice President of Governmental Affairs! Angry attendees starting yelling and leaving in protest, and I was a little worried by the ruckus but Mom said everything would be okay, and I settled down. Here's a video clip from some of it from ERCs YouTube:

You may remember when I blogged about Taxicabs and Service Dog discrimination back in September 2010, when the Equal Rights Center (ERC) published a report and video called No Dogs Allowed. Well... Mom had been keeping her eye on the ERC--she applied for an internship with them this summer and got it! So that is what we have been up to--interning with the ERC--instead of blogging!
Anywoof, Mom has been taking lots of pictures and videos of me and will update you on my adventures soon.
Woofs & Wags,

I love your blog, I read all your posts over a couple of days. I can't believe the problems you've had at uni, having had a brilliant disability co-ordinator for my faculty all my problems have been relatively minor. It's through reading blogs like yours that I've decided to start my own to document my progress in applying for an assistance dog.
ReplyDeleteHi DMU girl! That is great that you've decided to start your own blog! I haven't been posting much at all but hope to get back a regular schedule in the next couple weeks.
ReplyDeleteWhere are you applying?
